The annual NASA Red Sox STEM day took place on April 8 at Fenway Park. Despite the unseasonably cold weather, over 4000 students and teachers from the New England/Boston area came to learn about NASA’s current and future missions and participate in science activities prior to attending an afternoon Red Sox game.
Once again our traveling transit model made the trip to Fenway to help us demonstrate how TESS searches for planets around distant stars, while Katharine and Kiran handed out informational posters and used planet finding flashcards to demonstrate all the different ways the universe tries to trick us in our planet finding quest. The MIT-based REDSoX team used polarized film and filters to teach students about the light emitted from black holes, showcased the mission’s technology with 3D printed models, and handed out bookmarks.
Despite the chilly weather, the event was a huge success, and the other Red Sox team capped off the day by blanking the Milwaukee Brewers 5-0!
